Rohit Sharma, the Indian ODI captain, recently commemorated his 18th year in international cricket with an emotional post on Instagram. The celebrated right-handed batsman made his debut for India on June 23, 2007, against Ireland in Belfast.
In his Instagram Story, Sharma expressed his gratitude, writing, "Forever grateful 23.06.07," marking the date of his debut. Although he didn't get a chance to bat in that particular match, as India secured a victory with nine wickets to spare, it was the beginning of a remarkable journey.
Since then, Rohit Sharma has become an indispensable part of the Indian cricket team. His leadership has guided the team to numerous achievements, including the 2024 T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy earlier in the same year.
Having retired from Tests and T20Is, Sharma played 67 Test matches and 159 T20I matches for India. He accumulated 4301 Test runs, featuring 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries, with an average of 40.57.
His prowess in white-ball cricket is even more impressive. In 159 T20I matches, he has scored 4231 runs, including five centuries and 32 fifties. In 273 ODIs, Sharma has amassed 11,168 runs, boasting 32 centuries and 58 fifties at an exceptional average of 48.76.
Rohit Sharma, who retired from Test cricket last month, is currently not participating in the ongoing India tour of England series. His return to the field is anticipated in the series against Bangladesh in August.
