Jasprit Bumrah's Brilliance Draws Comparisons to Sir Richard Hadlee
Jasprit Bumrah was the star performer for India on Day 2 of the Leeds Test match, securing all three England wickets as his teammates struggled to find their rhythm. England closed the day at 209/3, with Bumrah's figures standing at an impressive 3/48. His performance was a stark contrast to the rest of India's bowling attack at Headingley.
Jasprit Bumrah celebrates a wicket against England
Bumrah dismissed Zak Crawley early for just 4 runs, followed by Ben Duckett (62) and then the prized wicket of Joe Root (28). The dismissal of Root was particularly significant, halting England's momentum.
Sanjay Manjrekar, former Indian cricketer and JioHotstar expert, lauded Bumrah's performance, drawing comparisons to New Zealand's legendary Sir Richard Hadlee.
"We've seen four hundreds in the match so far -- three from India and one from England -- but which bowler has been truly special? For me, it's just Bumrah," Manjrekar stated on 'Match Centre Live' after the day's play.
"Just the ability to manufacture a wicket every time he came into the attack is what stands out. The one bowler that comes to mind, someone with that kind of impact single-handedly, is Sir Richard Hadlee. He played for a New Zealand team with a relatively weaker attack, but every time he came on, you felt a wicket was around the corner," Manjrekar added.

Manjrekar further explained, "The common thread between the two is mastery-- when I watched Hadlee from close quarters, he felt like a true master of his trade. I get that same impression with Bumrah."
Earlier in the match, England won the toss and elected to bowl. India's innings featured centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal (101 off 159 balls), Shubman Gill (147 from 227 balls), and Rishabh Pant (134 from 178 balls).
India reached a total of 471, despite a collapse from 430/4. Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue spearheaded England's fightback, claiming four wickets apiece. Stokes ended with figures of 4/66, while Tongue secured 4/86.
