Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement has taken the internet and the world by storm. After a two-year whirlwind romance, the singer revealed that her NFL beau popped the question going down on one knee. She even shared the photos of the fairytale proposal in a post that she captioned, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Taylor's old tweet to Selena resurfaces
Soon after the post went viral, singer and BFF Selena Gomez showed her support by 'liking' it. As soon as Swifties noticed the like, a tweet from 2009 resurfaced online.
In the tweet, Swift replied to her friend about finding 'real love'. At the time, Gomez, who was 17 at the time, tweeted about a conversation she had with two children on the meaning of love. “Discussing love with two 9-year-olds. That’s what love supposed to be,” she wrote. “Truly amazing, I’m never leaving Canada.”
A then 19-year-old Swift, responded with a message that read, “Real love still happens sometimes. It’s not just something we make up when we’re nine. I have to believe that. You do too.”
Selena and Taylor's romances with Nick and Joe
At the time, the friendship between the singers was blossoming amidst their romances with the Jonas Brothers. Swift briefly dated Joe Jonas in 2008, while Gomez was in an on-and-off relationship with Nick Jonas from 2008 to 2010. “We actually dated the Jonas Brothers together! It was hysterical,” Gomez later recalled in a 2017 interview.
“It was amazing, because [Taylor] was the girl with the big curly hair and all the bracelets and the cowboy boots. And I was definitely up-and-coming, and we just clicked.”
Though their romances with the boybanders were short-lived, Swift and Gomez’s friendship endured. Fast forward to today, both stars are gearing up for their weddings.
Selena's engagement to Benny
Gomez is engaged to Benny Blanco. The couple announced their engagement in December 2024, sharing the news with an Instagram post captioned, “Forever begins now.”
Eight months later, Swift is now getting ready to take the plunge with Travis Kelce.
