Batting great Sachin Tendulkar was at his wittiest as he engaged with fans during an ‘Ask Me Anything’ session on social media platform Reddit on Monday, August 25. The former India captain mixed insight with humour, giving candid responses to questions about both his personal and professional life.
From sending a playful message to umpire Steve Bucknor to confirming son Arjun Tendulkar’s engagement with Saaniya Chandok, granddaughter of Mumbai businessman Ravi Ghai, Tendulkar entertained thousands of fans during the session.

Tendulkar’s sharp wit stood out. Asked for a message for Steve Bucknor, with whom he shared many on-field run-ins, Tendulkar quipped: “When I am batting, give him boxing gloves to wear (so he can’t raise his finger).”

For context, Bucknor and Tendulkar shared one of cricket’s most talked-about player–umpire relationships. The Jamaican umpire, who officiated in five World Cup finals, gave Tendulkar a string of controversial decisions, most notably on the Australia tour in 2003–04 and against Pakistan in 2005. While those moments angered fans, Tendulkar has always looked back on them with humour and respect, often recounting them with a smile.
Tendulkar, who became Reddit’s brand ambassador in June, has been active on the platform, sharing thoughts on cricket and beyond. When he announced his AMA, questions poured in.
One fan even asked him to prove it was really him by sending a voice note. Tendulkar responded with a photo of himself on the platform and joked: “Abhi Aadhar bhi bheju kya? (Should I now send you my Aadhaar?).”
